The Manila Hotel’s Lobby

Posted: October 24th, 2009 | No Comments »

The Manila Hotel is  the oldest established hotels in the Philippines capital and was a regular stop for visitors back in the old days. Situated near Rizal Park and Manila Cathedral on Roxas Boulevard it opened in 1912 and is still in business.

Anyway, here’s a picture of the main lobby from (I think) the 1920s I came across recently. The main lobby was designed for sitting as well as for making grand entrances. It was 125 feet (38 m) long by 25 feet (7.6 m) wide and lined with white Doric columns. The floor is Philippine marble, the chandeliers are made of brass, crystal and seashells, the furniture is carved out of Philippine mahogany which is used throughout the hotel
