Fat China Timeline

Posted: January 9th, 2010 | No Comments »

I’ve just finished of a book on the question of rising obesity rates in China over the last 20 years and what the continued trend towards more incidences of obesity in urban China combined with a rise in lifestyle diseases in general will mean for Chinese society and, in particular, the future of the PRC’s healthcare system.  The book is based on a lot of research on diet, food purchasing, catering, pharmaceuticals and the healthcare system myself and partner at Access Asia, Matthew Crabbe, have done over the years on this subject. The book – Fat China: How Expanding Waistlines Will Change a Nation will be published in June by Anthem Press.

Local listings magazine That’s Shanghai apparently couldn’t wait until June so they’ve run a piece on the obesity phemonenon in China based largely on our book’s research and with a useful ‘obesity timeline’ tracking the development of the rise of obesity. You can read it here.
