Ricci’s 1602 Map of the World

Posted: January 16th, 2010 | No Comments »

I read that Matteo Ricci’s map of the world from 1602 created for the Wanli Emperor is on display in Washington. Printed on rice paper it is a thing of wonder. Here’s a scan of a portion and a link to a Guardian article on the map. Apparently the whole thing will be scanned in and put up on the web for closer examination at some point.
