One of the great doyens of Shanghai’s history community Tess Johnston is launching her new book this weekend in Shanghai. Most people will know Tess for her mammoth and comprehensive books on art deco and art nouveau in Shanghai, treaty port architecture and so on, but this time she’s written her own story – an autobiography entitled Permanently Temporary: From Berlin to Shanghai in Half a Century published by the Old China Hand Press. She’s having a launch with Nora Sun (Sun Suifen) introducing her this Saturday – details below.
