The Nanking Summer Palace
Posted: April 13th, 2010 | No Comments »There must be plenty of people who know more about Nanking’s Summer Palace than I do but here’s a sketch of it from a German periodical (no date I’m afraid) – Die Kaiserliche Sommerpalast as they’d have it. If memory serves the palace was badly damaged during the Taiping Rebellion while this is obviously an artists rendering of the Palace and probably by an artist that never personally saw it (possibly). So accuracy is not the main object here rather just a look at a nice image redolent of its time and what European artists expected to see at an emperor’s summer palace in Nanking.
