A Few Asides from Tokyo – The Old Shimbashi Railway Station
Posted: June 29th, 2010 | No Comments »Close by the current Shimbashi Railway Station in Tokyo is a building that was the old station. The original Shimbashi Station, opened on October 10, 1872, as the terminus of Japan’s oldest rail line, the Tokaido Main Line. The original station was known as the Shimbashi Teishajo. The new station replaced the old one as early as 1909. Most of the track, goods yards and parts of the station were demolished to create the Shiodome area and all that remains now is what you see below. Apologies for the terrible pics but buildings close in on all sides make it tricky to get a decent shot.
