Came across these pictures of Taipei in the 1950s the other day and, if you know Taipei at all, they are rather fascinating. They’re all from Life I think and give a marvellous sense of the early days of the ROC. Click here

    There are pictures you shouldn’t see on that post: People in uniform lining up with the rest of the people. How dare they imply that people in uniform need to line up for anything in Taiwan ? That doesn’t happen in China. Not even today.

    The CCP should protest strongly against that photo as it sure hurt the feeling of Chinese people.

    Saw the picture Bill Rich comment on, I think that is a line for a movie, pretty common then and now, soldiers get a discount but do have to get in line.
