Oily Seafood in JG Ballard’s Bedroom

Posted: December 27th, 2010 | 1 Comment »

Two friends recently dined in the now gutted and re-decorated restaurant that was once the childhood home of JG Ballard – see a bunch of previous posts on the trashing of the house (here for instance). Anyone even looking at the property now knows that it has been a true abortion of a ‘refurbishment’ – in fact an abortion of an abortion of an abortion – neither the last restaurant or the electrical engineering library before did the property any favours. Here’s the private dining room which is in what was previously, once upon a time, Jim’s bedroom.

The verdict on the food? “oily and very over-priced seafood” – so nothing new for Shanghai then!!

I’ve closely followed the “renovation”… plus I have much older shots of the Ballard home http://www.jgballard.ca/shanghai/shanghai.html
