RCA Victor and His Master’s Voice (HMV of course in later incarnations and still doing business down in Hong Kong) had their offices up on Peking Road (Beijing Road) in the 1930s from where they issued posters with rather nice typefaces and fonts such as these…

    The typefaces and fonts are indeed rather nice, inviting us to read it all through rather than scurry by with no more than a glance, the world before Helvetica. Even now ads from the 20’s and early 30’s have a catching simplicity, a modernity about them that still holds the eye.
