London China Hands of the 1950s

Re-reading Austin Coates’ 1959 novel The Road which is about 1950s Hong Kong, though includes this passage about those China Hands in London who used to get together (Coates would have been familiar with the scene) for a drink and reminisce. Scarily hasn’t changed much….
