Autumn’s Asia Literary Review
Posted: October 29th, 2009 | No Comments »
The new Asia Literary Review is out and I always like to give it a plug as it has prettily rapidly established itself as a decent publication (for, I might add, a very reasonable price) in this part of the world and deserves a wider audience still.
The new issue includes work by Nam Le from Australia who’s collection The Boat I enjoyed earlier this year and photojournalism on the lives of India’s Kushti westlers (one of them is on the cover in case you thought it was just some bloke in a pair of elboarate pants). More germane to this blog there’s also an interesting piece by Duncan Hewitt on the legacy of JG Ballard and the debt he owed to his time in Shanghai as a boy.
PS: Just to note that Hewitt’s excellent book – Getting Rich First: Life in a Changing China is now out in an American edition with a slightly different and much grander title. We did a podcast together the other day on attitudes in China to enviornmentalism and other stuff that may interest some.
