A fine Oriental painted and gilded wooden six panel screen

A fine Oriental painted and gilded wooden six panel screen, comprised of three hinged pairs of screens standing on twelve metal capped block feet and decorated with cranes in a river landscape. What also make this screen interesting is that it is one of a number of discerning items that came up for auction recently from the Collection of the late Jean and Jacques Sieulle, of Jersey. The Sieulle’s were entrepreneurs, gallery owners, property developers, and collectors of Oriental art and antiques. They married in Paris in the late 1960s and for their honeymoon embarked on a six-month world tour during which they compiled a list of places they hoped to revisit. Throughout the following two decades the couple travelled extensively, revisiting many of the destinations in the Far East and South Pacific that had first captivated them, among them Bora Bora, Thailand, Sri Lanka, China, and Japan. In 1990 they spent several months in Hong Kong before returning to Jersey to retire. Most of the pieces from their collection were acquired during their travels.
